Ten Swords

The previous entry entitled At the Mouth of Rivers was not a divination or wish for our World.  It is simply an example, a link between then, now and expanding awareness (possibly) via Tarot.  Traditional divination views Ten Swords as the final step within a mental process.  It represents what is necessary to overcome fears born in the mind.

The figure shown in this card is in a seemingly bad way.  In modern lingo it appears to be a “man down” situation, as he has ten blades collectively lodged in his face and spine.  At first glance this scene is rightly troubling, but it is important to take into account the suit when reading with Tarot cards.

Swords correspond to the element of air.

Original Ten Swords card is from the Rider Tarot Deck.  Pamela Colman Smith is the artist.

At the Mouth of Rivers

In my book, Deluge gifting Ta-Urt a little freedom in Montenegro is a classic.  Despite the quote in this article dated January 12, 2010 where a keeper states that it is not unusual for the hippo to escape its pen when the waters rise, I look for the sky to fall in on us all at any moment (smile).  Of course I am just kidding!  But really who knows?  The following excerpt is from Gilgamesh. Part 5, The Story of the Flood:

“Lay upon the sinner his sin,

Lay upon the transgressor his transgression,

Punish him a little when he breaks loose,

Do not drive him too hard or he perishes;

Would that a lion had ravaged mankind

Rather than the flood,

Would that famine had wasted the world

Rather than the flood,

Would that pestilence had wasted mankind

Rather than the flood.”

In the Rider Deck, a peculiar Arcana Minor tarot card not in the cup suit that features the element of water, or better stated “fluidity” with a theme of release is Ten Swords.
